Easter is a Christian holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus. It is a very significant event in the Christian faith, as it represents the triumph of life over death and the hope of eternal life. Easter has been associated with fertility in some cultures, particularly those that predate Christianity. In pagan traditions, the spring equinox (which often falls around the same time as Easter) marks the time of year when the earth is being reborn after winter, and new life is emerging. This includes the birth of new animals and the blooming of plants, which are all symbols of fertility and new beginnings.

Some Easter symbols, such as eggs and rabbits, are also linked to fertility. Eggs have been a symbol of new life and rebirth for thousands of years, and in some cultures, they were even used in springtime fertility rituals. Similarly, rabbits are known for their ability to reproduce quickly and often, which has made them a symbol of fertility in many cultures. Although these fertility symbols predate Christianity, they have been incorporated into the Easter traditions of many cultures. In the Christian context, eggs have come to symbolize the empty tomb of Jesus after his resurrection, while rabbits have been seen as a symbol of new life and hope. Overall, while Easter is not solely linked to fertility, it has been influenced by cultural traditions and the arrival of spring (in the Northern Hemisphere).

The moon also plays a role in the celebration of Easter, as the date of Easter is determined by the lunar calendar. Specifically, Easter is observed on the first Sunday after the first full moon occurring on or after the vernal equinox (March 21st). This means that the date of Easter can fall anywhere between March 22nd and April 25th. This year, Good Friday is 7th April, it’s an extra long weekend in Kalbarri and there will be many children searching for chocolate eggs left by the Easter Bunny on Easter Sunday 9th April.

Easter is a time for celebration and reflection and a time to appreciate the beauty and joy of life.
