Have you marked your calendars for this June long weekend, which is just around the corner, because it’s the Kalbarri Lights Up Festival brought to you by the Kalbarri Development Association in collaboration with Adventurethon, Kalbarri Town Talk Magazine and Kalbarri Visitor Centre. As we gear up for the festival, we’re calling on all members of our community to help us put Kalbarri back on the map, and even (we hope, one day) seen from space! Here’s how you can join in making this new annual festival event a truly spectacular one.
You can get involved at home, and in your local business, by dragging out those Christmas lights you thought you wouldn’t need until December. The June Long Weekend marks the winter solstice, with some of the coolest, darkest and shortest days of the day (makes a nice change from the relentless summer we experienced just gone). Get into the Lights Up spirit by adorning local buildings and gardens with a dazzling light display! Have a think about all the ways you can create an inviting and enchanting atmosphere for the Kalbarri Lights Up Festival – it’s not just limited to home – light up your car, bike, boat, scooter and even yourself – the opportunities are endless.
Thanks to the Tudor Caravan park and other generous businesses, we have cash prizes to award down at Sally’s Tree during the festival. Register your project on our website. Prizes include:
- Best local light up business $100
- Best home light up $100
- Best art piece $100
- Best junior art $50
- Best junior light up your ride $50
This year we also have a bigger and brighter community art project installation along the foreshore. Join us on Saturday and Sunday from 4pm to check it all out and enjoy free live music whilst we wait for the sun to set and for Kalbarri to GET LIT! Cheer on the Adventurethon participants as they cross the finish line. There are both morning and evening markets on Saturday and Sunday, with some exciting new stores and delicious food trucks – you can also BYO picnic and blanket and set yourself up for an evening of fun and entertainment suitable for all ages.
Kids will love our glow and go UV zone. Dress up and get painted in UV paint so you can glow the night away. After the bands and awards we have special guest DJs performing on the beach so you can dance till you drop! Our killer entertainment will be announced on social media this month, so stay tuned.
