G’day Kalbarri,
Happy New Year! Well the sun has set for 2023 and we welcome in 2024.
As you read this be assured Police are and have been active in Road Traffic Policing and all things festive season, inlcuing the enforcement of double demerit points.
Many drivers have been stopped and it is pleasing that the bigger majority are doing the right thing.
Thank you to those who take responsibility in keeping our roads as safe as possible.
On the flip side, road side drug testing, breath testing and speeding offences certainly need some improving.
We have increased patrols at many local camping areas after a small few are of the opinion that drink driving over the limit in these areas is okay. Police have the power (Road Traffic Act) to breath test and charge drivers for exceeding alcohol limits if they are driving in any area open to and used by the public. So driving on a public beach after having a few to many may lead to a loss of licence and hefty fine. Please drink responsibly.
Another area we have targeted is bicycle and e-riders. Riding a bicycle without a helmet is a $50 on the spot fine. Police would rather you invest that money into the purchase of a helmet and give yourself or your child the best chance of minimising serious injury should an accident occur.
A sincere thank you to everyone who has supported and assisted police during 2023. Police + Community make a great team and together we have achieved many positive outcomes during 2023.
Our current crime rate is the lowest it has been in over 5 years, our drug detection is high and community assistance is absolutely crucial in achieving these results – thank you.
I wish you all the best for 2024.
